LeaderShape Institute. Thirty University of Wisconsin engineering students were chosen to complete the LeaderShape Institute in it's first global course in Cape Town, South Africa. I was lucky enough to be one of them. Our month long experience encompassed a week long leadership course, a volunteer project and amazing exploration.
Flying from O'Hare, we had a quick layover in Johannesburg. I became close friends with my seat mate, Sean, and my soon to be partner in crime, Callan. We arrived in Cape Town late in the evening and were shuttled to the university's campus. Our first view of Cape Town was from the top of the university, overlooking the sparkling spectacle of lights. Taking a few pictures, we received our room assignments and settled in for the night. Our rooms were set up in groupings, with a room and full bathroom on the first level and four bedrooms and a half bathroom on the second and third levels. Cape Town and Wisconsin students were interspersed within floors, but we were the first to arrive. The next morning, we were woken up bright and early to combat the jet lag. We trekked around Upper Campus, which is located on the slopes of Devil's Peak. Cape Town. |
